Foca (Phokaia)
Foca is one of the rare towns of the
Aegean Region that maintained its antique architecture. It is known as two
parts: The Old Foca ( Eski Foca ) and the New Foca ( Yeni Foca ) .
The people of Phoikaia who sailed from harbour to harbour with their fast
ships resistant against the strong storms and waves of the open seas

Foca (Phokaia) which was
founded by the seamen of Phokaia in 600 B.C. is one of the most
important settlements of the Ionians. Foca presented significant
works of art in Philosophy, Architecture and Sculpture, and got the
name "Foca" from the "Fok" - meaning Seal in Turkish - seen in Foca
coastline.

Phokaia, as the first of the Ionian towns printed the electron coins
made of natural gold-silver mixture, was led by Seleukos Kings of
Bergama and finally by the Romans.
It was the centre of Bishops in the early times of Christianity.
Foca has historical beauties with various and interesting legends.
Siren Rocks, Kybele Open-air Temple, Beşkapilar are som of the
